just to put things in perspective, gas is still cheaper here than anywhere else in the world...the U.S. has really been getting rediculously cheap gasoline for decades.....and yes I drive over 700 mi a week and spend over $300/month on gas

I'm confused... not buying gas for one day is going to lower the prices? I would think that it would raise prices, because lower sales equals lower profits, which translates to raised prices to reclaim profits.

Additionally, gas is such a required commodity now that I doubt everybody would be able to NOT buy gas for one whole day. Granted, everybody could rush out and buy gas on May 18th, but uh... that still means gas companies are selling gas.

Maybe I'm missing something here.

This won't do anything. It's not decreasing demand, just shifting it to a different day. Gas consumption will be higher on May 18th or May 20th, but lower on May 19th. In the end, it's all the same.

Ummmm....I hate to break it to you but the answer is no...because if noo one bought gas on the 19th then everyone would buy gas on the 20th(or so). The temperory influx of inventory would be rapidly disolved. Now if you could get people to not buy gas for a couple of weeks then maybe. But even then my guess is no. Good idea but not going to really make a difference....

Let me guess you got this in e-mail and it's a chain letter right? If so they could care less about the gas prices, the people who made it just want to up e-mail. They don't give a shit about gas prices....

Just to put things in perspective, gas is about $0.14 a gallon in Venezuela.

I doubt even if everyone did this it would work, but what JoeD said is the number one reason why none of these plans would ever work. Simply put, everyone just 1 don't care enough, 2 doubt it and not willing to try, 3 what JoeD said they do reverse what you ask them to do.
