The shop I got the estimate from said because it is pearl, it takes a lot more work to match the color properly. I trust the guy because he comes highly recommended from a friend.

Voodoo,
That totally sucks - I'd be so incredibly pissed if that happened to me (especially since I just got this awesome car). This post reminds me though - I had body work done on my previous car 3 times, and the first two body shops did such amazingly poor work (South Bay Auto Body in Los Gatos, and Capital Ford) that it amazed me that they were even in business. From those experiences, I was determined to make a web page that allowed people to review Bay Area automobile repair shops, and body shops. I've still never done that, but I'll have to get off my butt and do it soon if no one else does. Josh3io's "Shop/Dealer Database" would be great, but it's currently dissabled (anyone know what's up with that?). Anyhow, I know you mentioned that you already have a good recommendation, but I thought I'd give another one - the 3rd shop that I went to with my previous car: Beeline Body shop near downtown San Jose. They specialize in BMW's, but they'll work on any brand. They are definitely a higher end shop, but their estimate was still acceptable to my AAA insurance (which tends to be chincy). Their service folks are totally professional, and the work that they did was amazing - could not tell any difference from the factory body/paint. You might consider going there to get a second estimate or something (if you're close to SJ).
