contemplating a sound system
#32
so i just got the alpine type r speakers installed, and with the 9857 equalizer settings i was unable to get the sound that i was hoping for - the highs seem pretty hot, and may be because the installer set the crossover settings to the lowest setting. i originally wanted it set to the middle, but he said it sounded best on the lowest setting. i may do the following:
1) try and see if changing the crossover settings will give a more balanced sound that i was looking for w/o amping it
2) if that still doesn't work out, then amp it with the pdx-2.150.
IMAGINE mentioned that components and a 2 channel amp would be adequate for good balanced sound, so i'm hoping it would come to this. i don't want to install a sub mainly b/c i want to save trunk space, otherwise i would go with the pdx-4.150 and a 10" type r sub. i'm sticking to alpine b/c it saves me the headache of trying to compare brands when i don't even know about the basics, haha.
alpine 9857 deck's amp is only a measly 18 watts. hopefully cranking the components to its full 110 RWS will bring out enough bass to omit a sub. a couple of you kindly offered to let me sample your systems - i've been busy at work lately, so i apologize if i haven't PMed you back. i'll IM you later today =)
thanks in advance~
