Default Clutch Engadgement Question

I also posted this in Under the Hood, but figured I'd ask local people too.

My clutch used to always catch at the very top, I would just have to step on the pedal a little bit to engage it. NowI noticed I have to basically push all the way down until it will catch.

Basically for about the 1st 1/4 of pushing the clutch in nothing happens at all, I can be cruising down the road and push it in 1/4 of the way and it doesn't even start to engage.

My question is how do I adjust the engagement point so it is back higher again? Also is my clutch nearing the end of its life?

I just had this issue and fixed it this weekend. I went to the dealer to see what they had to say about this issue and they wanted to sell me a new clutch (I'm not even slipping). I also inquired about a clutch line bleed and they quoted me $180, what a rip.. what is that.. like 2 hrs of labor they're trying to charge me???

So I stopped by a local shop and w/o looking at my car, they suspected the slave cylinder rod needed replacing (I attached a link to how to clean the thing instead). I decided I would hold off on a $300 job and do more research.

https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=370792

I went home and checked s2ki and do some investigating myself.. turns out my clutch fluid was low, just barely btw. Filled it up with some dot3 (fan boys will tell you fill with dot 4) and it IMMEDIATELY felt back to normal.

give that a try.. hope that helps and if it doesn't, I would recommend trying to follow that DIY on how to clean the cylinder rod.

^ good job on not doing what the dealer said.
dot 3 is actually better for that application.

man, you got to watch those dealers. Good job.

Few years ago I got burned by an Acura dealer on a job and started doing my own work. It's a whole lot more fun and so much cheaper.

the parts department also sold me the wrong crush washer the same day when I went in to buy MT oil and two washers. I specifically asked if he was sure the washers were the same washers for both fill and drain... always trust your own instinct and not the dealer.
