Default cloth top wearing through

I've read a number of threads now regarding the soft top wearing through (near the sides, adjacent to the drivers and passenger side window. Its apparently due to something on the inside rubbing everytime you open and close it or something of that nature.

Has anyone in the bay had any experiences with going to the dealer about this? (if so, which dealer?). I feel kind of partial to Menlo Honda after the fine job they did on all my tsb work.

I know someone else on here had this problem, but the top wasn't completely worn through yet so there was no action taken by the dealer. but I dont' remember which member it was.

redleader -

I've "sort of" had experience with this. On my top, the area in question was on the side, near the seam, not far above where the top descends beneath the body panel. It was replaced under warranty.

PM me, and I'll tell you the details of my experience, and I'll also explain why I say "sort of".

yeah, sorry i have not been around to get any resolution yet on mine. the dealership logged the issue and said that they would address the issue as it came up. AHM has been made aware of the issue, as has Honda in Japan. No word back yet on any solution, but I was given the impression that it would be something that would be covered if the wear was excessive. Decision is likely made at the dealer level w/ the DM, so bringing the car into your favorite dealer and at least getting the developing issue logged could help you should it finally wear thru.

I haven't posted in a looonnngggg while, but I have the holes as well. I took my 2000 S to San Leandro Honda and had Jessica look at it. That led to the District Service Rep a couple of weeks later. She looked it over and went off to do her research. I got a call a couple of days later stating Honda has noticed the problem in areas were the weather is always pleasant the to top gets a lot of use. They have not developed a solution as of yet, but did order me a new top. I get it installed tomorrow.

Just a quick update, tomorrow is day three of the install. As far as the new top, its is the same as the original. I showed the service rep Honda's fix for the 02&03 models on the new 2003 on their showroom floor. It's plastic piece riveted to the frame to prevent the metal from rubbing the top. No joy on the replacement though. She said Honda is working on a design change for the older tops, but nothing yet.
