CHP Have a new toy. Lidar units now used
Looked around for this news on the site and didn't see so I thought I'd give a heads up. As early as last Aug Lidar (laser speed detectors) were used by the CHP in Santa Cruz. Now it's in the BA.
I've seen it twice at the bottom of the Dublin Grade going westbound on the 580 at Castro Valley. V1 caught it but not on time... fortunately I wasn't going fast enough to get pulled.
At very least this may be a good spot to put sightings of cops with Lidar.

Interestingly enough no the CHP did not. Only recently have they started to you Ka band radar (actually it's microwave). But last year in August they started using Lidar which is far tougher to detect as a motorist.
That's why I mentioned.

Is this what the new "pop" revision is about regarding the Valentine V1's??? I have never even heard of Lidar... or maybe I have but just by another name.

The problem to us with Lidar is that the beam is so narrow (Laser for crying out loud) that if your detector catches it, it's probably caught you.
There are laser shields but they're illegal in CA.
