Man, something doesn't seem right here. Just because the towing company finds a car with expired registration doesn't mean they can go off and sell it. Granted they didn't hear from the guy for a month; it shouldn't mean that they automatically own the vehicle!

Well, it was all a series of bad luck for the owner, plus some fault of his own for not putting the registration sticker on. But to be fair to the towing company, I think they followed all the proper procedures: They put a notice on the car for 2 weeks before actually towing it; then they send a letter to the owner and waited another month before they took action to reclaim their storage fees (by auctioning off the "abandoned" car).

Although it is very unfortunate for the owner, it would be hard to argue against the towing company.

that's definitely strange that they would tow something that's in a marked parking spot though...

I mean, isn't that basically an assigned driveway?

While the towing company may be legally okay in this situation, towing companies in general are some of the sleaziest businesses out there .

Wait a minute...if they auctioned this car, obviously they needed to break in to it. When they broke in to it, most likely they went through the glove compartment & all other compartments.

Wouldn't they have seen the registration information inside the glove then?

I dont believe they auctioned this as is, without even taking a look inside. They had to release the ebrake before towing the car away.

Thoughts?

As others have said, towing companies are not the best people on earth. But even if they do find the registration information, I don't think they feel it is their responsibility to bail out the stupid owner after giving him so many opportunities to claim his car. Along the same lines, would you expect a parking meter officer to insert a coin in an expired meter instead of issuing a ticket?
