majority of the CEL coming on is for the loose gas cap... code 1456 i think... so hopefully it's something minor like that... don't drive the car around too much w/o checking the code first... in case it is something more serious.

Is it the check engine light or the maintenance light? These are two different lights. The maintenance light can be reset by you, there is a procedure in the manual. If it's the check engine light, then use the advice above. But if the car runs fine, don't worry too much, just get the code read.

with CEL, i would drive it around (if it runs fine) so the ECU can adapt again and it will clear it by itself.
it might just be some minor stuff like if you just filled up from a different gas station, some tiny particles got in the MAP sensor, O2 sensor caught something, etc. etc. like i said the CEL is about emissions so drive it around and within 5 cycles it should go away.
if you want to check it, check the MAP sensor, gas cap for minor stuff... then you can go deeper to spark plugs, coil packs, etc... anything that will affect your a/f ratio can throw a code.

Ken,
You do not need to tow it anywhere unless it's a blinking CEL.
Autozone doens't read them for you anymore, but they rent them for free. Get the reader and pop it in at their parking lot to find out the code. It could be anything. Don't clear it unless you find out the code first.
You don't need to take it to the dealer to clear it, you can pull the fuse.

you can check the code yourself using the "paper clip" method.
CEL is nothing to worry about, that' all emissions... you can just wait after around 5-10 start restart cycle, it should go away.
