Default check engine light

Hi fellow s2kers

i m about to reach 45k mi. and check engine light suddenly popped up,

is this a coincidence or it's program to do so?

also, what is the first thing i need to do when i see the check engine light?

get an OBDII scanner tool and get the code pulled to see whast exactly is wrong with it.

ooo yea, i am gona get that done tomorrow! I also notice that my oil cap was a little loose, so I HOPE it's that and just require a reset, hope the code says its ok!

check that your gas cap is tight as well. that causes a CEL every once in a while for me. takes a few days for it to clear after that.

The CEL is not normal, however if your gas cap is not tight it will come on. I too learned the hard way and panic'd.

this happened to me around the same milage take it to your nearest dealership and they are going to tell you that you need your valves adjusted and that one of your cylinders is misfiring causing your check engine light to come on. they will adjust your valves from what i remember for around $250. it was a routine fix from what the dealership said. they also said it happens all the time in s2k's

If its a valve adjustment you need, take it to Its2Krazy (Joey) aka chinaman.

Update! the cel actually went away by itself, i believe it was the gas cap was loose ( that's what i meant by the oil cap......haha)

However, still gona get that checked out just to make sure it not the valves!
