Someone showing off is going to hit spectators on the side of the road and event is going to get shut down.
All those stunts were right in front of the cops too! Felt like we were at a European rally just waiting for some lead footed person to swerve into the crowd. Eventually SFPD stood in the middle of the road to direct traffic.
the organizer (friend of a good friend) undoubtedly has connections to local law enforcement, incl SFPD. you don't just randomly get an (assigned) presence at events like this. besides having more friendly monitors, they prob didn't have enough manpower to shake down all the hooligans. once people complain or get hurt, that'll put a clamp on things. hopefully, none of that happens.
My sense of the common police presence at big sanctioned car events is not that it's a result of "a friend of a good friend who has connections to local law enforcement", but rather a savvy economical PR approach on the department's side. Do our tax-dollars pay for uniformed officers to be standing by a tent with a demo-car and flyers...or do the event organizers? I don't see how a local PD, or even CHP, officers could be chaperoning an event without some coin being handed over by the organizers (or tax payers). It's not uncommon to see LEO at the international car shows, larger meets, etc. I believe its for a good cause (e.g., safety, good PR, etc), but let's not kid ourselves that it's some "inside connection" that's really running things in a situation like this. Reference: I used to organize larger events like this, and it wasn't inside connections that brought LEO, it was careful planning and cash-money.
you're missing the point/taking things way out of context. don't have time to get into it now. i'm not just talking sideways. someone i know (related to) used to be in charge of the guys (people) monitoring "special events" in SF, which includes Treasure Island. he went on to do more than that, but that's besides the point. i also deal w/LEOs regularly on a professional basis.
As do I sir, almost daily. But like you, I also don't have time to get into it now. Not sure if we agree or disagree, but since I like you, I'll say we agree!
we agree on at least one thing. i like me too! LOL

i appreciate some of what you're saying, but i've said too much on here already.

no worries, mike. just grown folks talking. back on topic & to the pics.

few friends went to this, incl one w/his son under the guise of "bonding time." #marriedlife think he brought his black $$$-pit Jag that he"s restoring. we tried to get our buddy that's one of the East Bay's finest to bring out his classic musclecar toy, but he's too busy w/soccer & hoops games on weekends. will try to make the next or a future event. i know another friend wants to do some promo for his shop too.
