Default Can you give me some advice on where to stay, please .....

My wife and I are going to LA for the Angeles Crest Run & BBQ at Raptors place and then we will be driving up to San Francisco with Mom & Nancy on Tuesday 13th. We need to find somewhere to stay from Tuesday until probably the following Monday.

We are going to want to do normal tourist stuff, so where would people suggest we stay? And any suggestions on "must do" tourist locations?

We're not looking for budget accommodation, but also not looking for top notch either. A hotel in the middle range with a swimming pool and the normal amenities.

All advice would be gratefully received.

Cheers

James

I've stayed at the The Westin St. Francis before. It's nice and right smack in Union Square where all the shopping is. Actually forgot some stuff and ran right across to the Macy's

* walk across the golden gate
* check out fishers warf
* head over to napa for wine tasting
* check out union square area
* check out chinatown area
* check out north beach area
* alcatrez island

Hotels at Fisherman's wharf are pretty decent...close to everything.

If your gonna check out alcatraz, take the night tour. It starts around 7pm and ends at 9pm and much more scary and fun at night. Buy tickets online since they do sell out.

Driving in SF is much more convinent but of course parking is a pain.

Most hotels here don't have swimming pools, since it's always cold here.

Hotel Del Sol is pretty groovy. it's in the marina and has a pool... my old boss used to stay there whenever he was in town from Colorado.. prices around $150 a night.. you can check em out on line too.. just do a google search for San Francisco Hotel Del Sol

and it's named after a Honda too!!

I recommend the Phoenix - it's very cool and cheap and central and has the bambuddha lounge
my friend stayed there two weeks ago when she visited from LA and said it was great.
funky pool and surrounds too!

James, the suggestions above are all good. I've got places at $50-$80, downtown where everything is but the rooms are sorta ghetto
