Default Cam swap demo day @ Blacktrax

So we are going to try something a little different from the typical dyno day stuff.

Jei w/ Blacktrax and I want to see who would be interested in doing a install/demo day involving AP2 S2000 ('04+) using AP1 intake cam. Because the AP1 cams are more aggressive, there is a belief that using an AP1 intake cam in place of the AP2 intake cam might offer up some more power.

Jei will be offering up his own AP2 to test this theory out as well as show people how to do the actual install. As a bonus and something I've never seen a shop offer, if you bring your own tools and an AP1 cam with you, the guys at Blacktrax will help you do the install.

So if you think this is something you guys would be willing to come out and check out, please chime in and let us know. And for you AP2 guys, if you want to do the cam swap, be sure to say so.

Plan of attack;
9am: Start baseline dyno runs on Jei's car

10am: Begin cam swap

11am: Do dyno runs with AP1 intake cam and overlay new results to original ones.

12pm: lunch - kinders bbq sandwiches and sodas/drinks provided for
$10/person. If anyone wants to contribute chips or whatever that's fine.

1-1:30pm: start doing cam swaps on other cars.

Please be on time folks at 9 AM so we can get started on time. I'll bring out some donuts or something for people to munch on until lunch.

Sounds like fun. Depending on the date I'd like to watch the install.

Hey guys!

It's common knowledge that the AP1 Intake cam has a slight bit larger profile compared to the AP2 Intake cam. Here is a link off of Brian Crower's website that shows us US and Metric Lift specs but duration is measured at .050in of lift.http://briancrower.com/makes/honda/f20cf22c.shtml

With this said, the intake cam should produce more low and midrage torque and hp something we AP2'ers have, but could use more of.

I'd like to know how many people are interested. The people who are interested should start sourcing their ap1 intake cam. Once we get a head count, I'll prepare a brief write up with the tools you'll need to have handy.

Possible Questions:
Q: How long will a cam swap take?
A: If you follow our directions, the mechanically inclined will take about 30-45min. But I expect everyone to take about 1 to 1.5 hours for the first time.

Q: If we install cams, do we need valve springs?
A: Since we're installing am OEM AP1 cam, we don't need to change springs.

Q: Will you show us how to change valve springs?
A: No we won't have the time to do so.

Q: Will the AP1 cam make power without tuning?
A: We will determine this on my AP2. From the research that I've done, YES.

Q: Will you offer dyno tuning after we install the cams?
A: Not that day, I don't think we will have time for this. However I can accomodate you on a separate dyno day or by personal appointment at our discounted dyno day rate.

Q: Should I get any type of managment to tune this cam?
A: The profiles between the two cams are not too drastic so the common VAFC's, Emanage, EMS's or Kpro's can be used for tuning. I still anticipate that the engine will make power off the stock ECU map, just not optimal power.

Q: What about cam gears?
A: Only company that has them is Toda and they're a grip. If anyone has these and would like to use them in our demo, please PM me. We should be able to get more gains by advancing the intake cam gear. (Asura need you to chime in here. You mentioned you knew someone who might have a set)

Q: What are the predicted gains? (from Project22a)
A: I would estimate 5whp and 5-7wtq from 3k to 7k rpms without tuning. The cost of a used cam + 30min install seems like a good bang for buck mod. With tuning possibly more.

I'm happy to answer any of your questions. I thought it be cool to do something for the NorCal S2K community. Not asking for money or anything for this occasion.

We can definitely have everyone pitch in for lunch or something. I'm thinking Kinder's BBQ sandwiches or something.

Jeff, I expect you to be here with cam and tools in hand
