My brother have been out of school since last summer and he still hasn't found a job yet. He has a Computer Science degree from San Jose.

Most of the guys at my work that have CS degrees are making $10/hours and they are not programmers but it's a foot in the door.

The bay area has a lot of empty office buildings. I don't think the job market is very good here. I used to make $22k a year in Maryland and I was living large! I make more than double that here and I can't barely get by.

My friend in Maryland bought a house built in the 1980s for $1,000 down and pays $400/month. You'll need to make like 80k a year here to buy a house I think.

hey everyone,

i too am looking for employment. i'll be graduating from USC in May and am currently seeking an opportunity within the consulting or financial services industry (or anything similar) in the bay area. does anyone have any leads? i've been going through on-campus recruiting, but there just aren't many companies that i'm interested in. let me know. thanks.

Senior Software Engineer (Web Services)

Roles and Responsibilities

Act as a primary contributor in the design and development of next generation Web Services firewall. Architect, develop and implement specific security standards, guidelines, and procedures. Work closely with other Engineering and Product Management staff to ensure the highest level of technical quality, security, scalability, and stability in all products and services.

Qualifications

* Exceptional protocol level knowledge of Web Services: SOAP, WSDL and XML Schema.
* In depth knowledge of C or C++ on Unix platforms, with thorough understanding of systems programming, network protocols and high performance and distributed systems.
* Knowledge of security design for Web Services a plus.
* 5+ years of computer industry experience, mostly in systems areas.
* M.S. in Computer Science.


Software Design Engineer

Role and responsibilities

Specify, design and develop code for the front end of Secure Application Gateway. Design a web based user interface and management software for controlling a cluster of gateway appliances. Refine and clarify end-user requirements and convert them into highly secure solutions.

Requirements

* Documented hands-on experience developing web-based applications in Linux and Apache environments.
* Expert knowledge of server side scripting. Knowledge of PHP a big plus.
* Expert knowledge of JavaScript. Knowledge of advanced HTML, CSS, DHTML.
* GUI design experience a plus.
* B.S. Degree in Computer Science or related field. M.S. preferred.



Software Design Engineer

90k is prolly middle class in the suburbs. If you're comp sci, you can usually get jobs...

As for weather... daaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyuuuuuuummmm today sucked >_<.

and it doesn't hurt to have the wife or significant other making 85k either..
