If your thinking of moving to California I would stay away from the bay area. It's very expensive.

Your money is worth 30% less to you in the bay area. So 40K is pretty much 28K. That's not to say that there aren't other areas in California that are affordable. I've lived here all my life and I love it here. I just deal with the expense. hehehe. Good luck.

To live comfortable in the bay area with your own place, you need to make more than 65k a year!!

BTW, not to hijack but hows the tech job market there? I am sure not as crazy as dot.com days but would a tech professional starve out there?

actually it's picking back up... I can definitely tell now that traffic is starting to be a bitch again.

I know I was underpaid before... but I started a new job this past week and am making more than before... doing about 60% of what I did before )

I guess that's the price of boredom and being unchallenged. There's a glut of experience walking around on the streets during the days, I guess not everyone will be challenged.
