Blackberry runs on true 3G which is 1000x faster than the iphone will ever run for internet.

I have both phones and I prefer the blackberry for instant internet access and iphone just to play around. A blackberry is more ideal for doing business, iphone is more a fun phone.
Blackberry unless they just came out with a brand spanking new phone runs on the edge network like the iphone.

as far as smart phones go that are 3G are these.
Pantech duo
Trio
Tilt
Blackjack & II
Moto Q

If you need the phone unlocked I have the number to do any phone on the AT&T network.

As far as phones go they all suck. Each one has their draw backs. Blackberry when it's 3G will be very nice.
The Tilt is what I use now and it's nice but bulky and comes with a crappy web browser.

uhm...i work for att and theres no such thing as a 3g blackberry...

blackberrys work off edge network.

since im a manager for ATT, i can demo whatever phone i want (sorry not bragging or anything but i can tell you the ups and downs of pretty much any phone) but then i have to return it after demo...

im using the pantech duo now, and within the past couple weeks, ive used a BJ2, iphone, tilt, centro, shine, motorola Q and a couple more i forgot. and i find that the blackberry is more useful than any phone ive ever had.

if you decide to purchase a BB8310, let me know. you WILL need a software upgrade because after a few weeks, your blackberry will start erasing your messages (not e mail) and last calls list. i have the software upgrade and i can shoot that to you if you get it

anyways..my take, is get the 8310...its an AWESOME phone and does what you need. Once blackberry comes out with a TRUE 3g phone, ill be a hardcore blackberry guy again

ap1shot: thanks for the insight - appreciate your comparisons!

I was at COSTCO Fremont and then called the NE SJ store both are out of the 8310 till thursday....seems like a hot phone

Yea from what the rep told me the 8310 is NOT 3G.....

Seems like COSTCO is the best place to buy since it's only $99.99 after rebate. We're going to get two of them since g/f wants one now too after reading the reviews.

boyguan : I did not see this deal on Amazon??? sounds too good to be true!

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000WP91XK/ref=br_fq_3

Link to amazon deal.

FYI - I was going to get the curve from Amazon, but they do not let you add it to a family plan. It has to be a BRAND NEW line of service on its OWN service plan.

There are some random amazon stipulations:

Conditional $250 Discount
The Price listed above for this phone includes an instant $250 discount from Amazon.com. You agree to repay this $250 discount to Amazon.com if, during the six-month period following the activation date or renewal date of your existing contract, you: (1) fail to pay your balance due each month on time; (2) fail to maintain your account in good standing; (3) disconnect the line of service; (4) transfer the phone to another line of service; (5) change your service rate plan, including canceling or removing required PDA, BlackBerry, or smartphone features after your product has shipped; or (6) use this line of service to replace an existing account with the carrier. The discount is available only if you are activating a new non-substitute line of service or extending an existing line of service. If you do not follow these rules, you authorize Amazon.com to charge your credit card $250 as reimbursement of the discount without need for further approval. Third-party resellers are prohibited from purchasing cell phones on behalf of customers. **Purchase limit five (5) cell phones per household.**

Also - Costco allows you to purchase the blackberry without tieing it to a blackberry service plan for the life of your contract. So I bought the blackberry, but haven't activated blackberry service yet. We wil add it on in the near future, but can also cancel the blackberry service and just use it as a stand alone phone as well if we want.

basically, when you sign for a 2 year contract ALMOST ANYWHERE besides a COR (corporate own retail) location, theres a second contract attached to it (one from your mobile provider(att, tmobile, etc) and one for that authorized dealer). everyone always comes in wondering why our prices are higher? ill explain to you why...

when i worked at an authorized dealer location, we worked with a company (who will remain nameless) who distributed phones to us. We would sell them at a HIGHLY discounted rate (such as RAZRs free around the time they first came out). The reason why is because for every new activation, we were payed close to $650 in commission for adding a line (no joke). Then my representatives took home $30, and my managers took home about $20/line (i was a district manager and got $10/line). so after paying your people, for each line, you still had $590 dollars to go towards your company(as the owner). Its crazy how that works but yeah...sorry to rant...it just irritates me when people walk into my store and get pissed off that we dont sell it for cheaper. Its mainly because you WILL have two contracts and if you disconnect your line within that 6 month period, you would get charged back that $650 (including that $60 you already payed your workers). thats how they make the money back up.

again, this is how the business was percieved when i worked at an authorized dealer.
