They should start giving out tickets to those speeding bikers or riding on the sidewalk

I am a big cycling fan as anyone out there. This chris bucchere guy committed vehicular manslaughter, pure and simple. No reason to think you're above the law b/c you're on a bicycle.

Big problem is due in part to this retarded glamorizing of fixed gear brakeless riding, there are plenty of videos on youtube and vimeo of these "heroic" feats of bombing down steep hills in SF and skidding through red lights and stop signs. Thats not to say they're all like that either, but its a dangerous and in this case deadly to everyone to have people with such lack of control of their vehicle. Guy needs to spend a fair amount of time in jail.

Start at 3:20 and you can see a near fatality as this bike ride blows through stop sign and nearly nails a pedestrian and dog.

Whats the point of not having brakes? Stopping is far more important than going.

I had a friend who was into the whole fixed gear scene a couple of years ago. When I asked him why doesn't he have brakes or at least a gear that disengages he said it "was not cool" and was "for posers." I never really understood the fixed gear scene. Those guys have a lot of guts / stupidity when speeding downhill in SF without brakes and just hoping the crossing traffic will stop for them.
