I have had Mercury since 1989, they're awesome.

Rates:

S2000 $634/yr 100/300/100 liability, 500 ded comp & coll
99 Corolla $568/yr same coverages as above
Total $1202/yr (actually $601/6 mo)

included discounts: multi car, renewal discount, good driver, group discount (engineers, teachers, scientists), multiple policies

I just signed up for condo insurance: $50K coverage, premium was $165. The discount on my auto policy for having my home insured with them was $190/yr ($25 MORE than the home policy costs!!!) I asked my agent if they have any other types of policies that I can have, and get even more money back.

There is some great information at the California Department of Insurance website. Here is a link to their Consumer Complaint Study:

http://www.insurance.ca.gov/docs/FS-ComplaintStudy.htm

It's definitely worthwhile to investigate these insurance companies!

I hope your current insurance company isn't closer to the bottom of this list.

Good Luck.

Allstate is ok as long as you don't get into an accident. If you get into an accident, then you will go through insurance hell and back. I even know of a local body shop that will refuse to work on your car if you have allstate insurance. They just hate dealing with allstate because the rarely pay enough to fix the car properly.

I had a car totaled last year by someone who had allstate insurance. The amount that they paid me for the totaled car was a total joke.

Try 21st century insurance. You might even want to try http://www.esurance.com/default.asp?flag=1 . They will give you a quote online.

USAA usually offers the best combination of rates and service, if you qualify. I even get a few hundred $ of my premium refunded every year or two when claims are below forecasts.

Anyone who is a military officer, past or present, on active duty, in the Guard or the Reserves qualifies. Dependents can also become USAA members, but sons/daughters must do so before a certain age, I think. I believe USAA opened membership to some enlisted ranks a few years ago as well.

My auto and homeowners premiums are consistently lower than any other quotes I've received, and USAA claims service is always rated at or near the top in national surveys.

Ditto on USAA. The S2000 costs me and the wife $314 every 6 months for 500/100 coverage. The year end dividend you get if claims are low can be hundreds of dollars - nice!

I'm paying $818/6 months with State Farm. For a single male with 2 tickets and a 70 mile round-trip commute along the 880 (East-Bay Demolition Derby. Twice Daily!) it's not too bad.

Once I get my home owner's back with them it'll drop to $730/6 months with the multi-line discount.

I've been with them for 12 years though...I understand they can be kind of expensive for new business.

Stay away from AAA. with a car like s2000, you're tempted to speed and if you get a ticket, AAA will know at once and increase your rates instantly.

As for Allstate, you're fine as long as you don't get into accident. Even you get lots of tickets, they don't check your record when you're already a customer and you get deduction very year still.

I just changed from Allstate to i21. They have the best rate i could find.

If you want an easy way to get the multiline discount, get the Hospital Indemnity policy. It costs me $32.80 per year for it, and if i got in the hospital, I get $50/day.. Big deal, BUT, it qualifies me for the Multi-Line discount which is a good bit more than $32.
Now there's an idea!

btw, in 24, with state farm since 16 and pay about $460/6 months.
Not bad. My insurance went up huge when I moved from San Jose to San Leandro. Location, Location, Location....

Well, OK, the two tickets don't help either
