a couple things on berkeley, or school in general.... all IMO of course...

1) Berkeley is still considered by many to be the "school of rejects" in that you go to berkeley if you didn't get into stanford, harvard, yale etc. How many people would go to berkeley if they got into one of the others? It's a public school that "ranks" up with the privates.

2) coming out of berkeley is still only a lowest common denominator sorta thing. Doesn't gaurantee you knowledge, relevant job skills, or even decency as a human. It's just a certificate meaning you maybe squeeked by with everyone else you graduated with.

3) The undergrad programs are actually deteriorating. As with many good things, people want it, but the people who want it vary more than the quality of education... so you inevitably get those who "want it" but don't put the effort in, but get by and therefore "get it" but not really... So maybe the hard part is getting in, not graduating.

So keep all that in mind. I still might go to UCB for Biz school... but then again.. if I get into Stanford, Harvard of MIT....

You can't directly apply to Haas for your freshman year. You have to apply to the College of Letters and Science and do a rigirous two year program before you can apply to Haas. It's pretty competitive and your Berkeley grades need to be good.

See: http://www.haas.berkeley.edu/Undergrad/ and http://www.haas.berkeley.edu/Undergrad/applying.html

Yes it is. My daughter (who got accepted to Haas for her Junior year ) took the Accord up to Berkeley for one night last year and the window got broken and her sun-glasses stolen. That's it, for a pair of sun-glasses, someone broke the window I would never, ever, take my S2000 up there except to pick-up or drop-off.

yea its big time rigorous, unless you start early at your local JC and start taking some of those breadth required classes..
then it would be just a TINY bit less stressful

Competiton is tough! believe meeeeeeee i know.
