From experience when fixing 3 piece rims...

Sometimes when only the lip looks damaged, the centers can also be slightly warped. Since a warped center is hard to see, you'll have to re-repair the repaired wheel after fixing the lip if you don't check the center first.

Wheel Techniques are very straightforward to deal with.
