Without going into too much detail, the state of CA has decided to "recall" all registered Skylines in the state for referee inspection, and any cars that don't pass the fundamental basics for being legal will be impounded and/or destroyed. This action will begin in the very near future.
1996+ requires OBD-II. None of the Skylines ever had OBD-II. so, 1996+ cars will fail on this alone, even if whatever is coming out of the tailpipe is squeaky clean. 1989-1995 cars with the proper paperwork should be ok.

This is all state law bullshit. I would appeal up to the Federal highway management division and see if you can federally be in this state with that car. They have certain juristictions. That would bypass state law. Then you can spit in their face and tell them to go check out thieves at an amusement park.
Its funny. I always think of the state and feds in a military way.
The state is like some Chief or Sgt telling you, you can do this or you cant do that, and the Feds are the officers and what they say goes, period.
I think owning this car is a challenge, but its a challenge that you can win. Like you said to bad you didnt live in another state. They pass Hawaii state inspections.
My buddy Romeo had 2 of them in Hawaii and his R34 was the best in all states with his $100,000 in aftermarket parts. He had Wheels that were almost $2000 a piece and his hood was like $10,000. He was a heavy baller in Hawaii with 8 cars.

Actually, it won't pass Federal either. OBD-II is required for Federal. It's no secret that Motorex was fudging some things to get these cars signed off. Basically, the 1996+ cars will only pass inspection in states that don't care about OBD-II.

[QUOTE=JsAP1,Feb 28 2006, 04:22 PM] The weird thing is that active duty military members stationed in Japan can bring the Skyline to California.

Most likely a temporary "visa", if you will, for the cars. Foreign nationals can get them too. But, you have to take the car out within a certain amount of time. No exceptions. As I said, I've been through every scenario in the past 3 months.
What are the main reasons it wont pass the state ref? Being RHD? Emissions you can get around. What else? Piecing two cars together?
