Default Bay Area Soft Top Install Recommendations?

Hey guys,

Some lovely crackhead sliced the top of the car....I need to get the top replaced. Does anyone have any recommendations for a shop in the Bay? I travel all over so anywhere from Santa Rosa to San Jose and the entire East Bay will work. Also if you have any general pricing expectations that would be awesome!

On a side note the passenger side clip broke when I closed the top, I need to replace this as well but was quoted close to 300 bucks at the dealership, any recommendations on where to track down a used one?

And finally! If any of you have a recommendation for an upholsterer that can just sew up the slice (approx 8inches, straight and clean cut), I would be willing to consider this as well.

Thanks for any help in advance!

what do you mean by the passenger side clip? do you mean the striker, or the soft top latch?

if you use the search column, there are a lot of threads regarding which shops to go to. i'm sure someone can chime in regarding that thread..

Thanks for replying. I tried the search but it wasn't region specific and didn't come up with much that was actually related to what I was looking for so I came to the local forum. I believe I mean the latch, its attached to the soft top, a small piece of plastic popped off of it that holds it in place when its latched. Very frustrating.

you can find latches here n there on these forums from time to time. i actually just sold mine to a local guy for $20... i doubt you'll find em for that low but its possible!

as for softtop install, if you find the whole top i can swap it for you, as opposed to just the fabric.

So I just changed my top, bought the top at http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/raframecatalog.php

Just look up the year of your car and pick up body-exterior. I bought a -

Twill Grain Vinyl, Canvas, Heated Glass Window; Black Backing

on Oct 22nd this year for $507.94 after shipping.

I then got my top installed at -

The guy there did the whole thing in a day. Dropped the car off in the morning around 7 am and he had it done by 4 pm. He charged me $520 for 8 hours of work at $65/hour.

Good luck sir.

Mike at Val's Auto Upholstery in SF did great work on my top. He knows his stuff so I'm sure he'll be able to tell you if a repair is even possible.
