Default Avalon is increasing our rent!

Avalon Mountain View is increasing the rent for our 3-bedroom apartment from $2000 to $2100. Do you guys think there is any chance I could negotiate down the price? Apparently the rental market is not as bad as I thought it was!

i guess in a normal bay area market, a $100 rent increase is pretty stantdard, but since the market is supposedly slow, I would suggest that you ask if there is anyway to maintain your current rent. At the same time, I would look around b/c many other nice places are offering move-in specials and you can either use that as leverage, or if no negotiations are possible, you can always move. good luck.

why don't you just get a three bedroom house? $2k is a pretty good deal for a 3 bedroom place in mountain view. if you don't mind living in other areas around mountain view you find a less expensive place.

Ok, I talked to our manager and got the $100 increase removed.

However... I see on their web site that they are advertising 3 bdrm / 2 bath for $1895: http://www.avaloncommunities.com/custom/br...44887&sc=avalon

I asked the manager about this, and she said it was a "mistake". Can they legally do this?? Isn't this false advertising?? Should I have asked to have my rent decreased to $1900 instead of $2000?
