Default Attempted Bay Area Theft

So I get a call at 5:30 in the morning by the Alameda PD. Anyone knows a call at that time, second thoughts will cross your mind about answering, because it's ALWAYS bad. So the cops tell me that my neighbor busts out two dudes trying to jack my s2k. They popped out my back window, pop the hood, disable my alarm, neighbor comes out and sees them, calls the cops. Let me tell you that Alameda's finest, comes within minutes to find KAO SAETEURN and THOMAS NGUYEN , drunk off their asses, hiding in the bushes. Who's still drinking at 5:00 am (besides me) ? Anyway, good luck KAO and THOMAS, the DA sent me your 2nd degree burglary charges plus thanks for the new alarm! And by the way AA is a b*tch too....

Damn, sorry to hear that. Why would you park that car outside? That was a no, no from day one back in Hawaii and now here. Keep that car in the garage...

Sorry to hear about the incident, but I'm glad the suspects were apprehended. Being a police dispatcher, I'm impressed that you have a cool neighbor who is down for you like that as well as the swift PD response.

Even scarier is that there is no way my car is even visible from the street....which leads me to believe that I was followed home...damn having stalkers is suddenly not "cool" anymore. I would tell everyone to be careful, I almost learned the hard way!

Easy for you to say. In SF garages can run as much as a car payment.

Question

Good to hear you got such nice neighbors to help you out!

Did they cut your top since most 01's only have a plastic rear window?

Was your car moded thus making your car more attractive to thieves? I was just wondering why people break into S2000's? Is it to steal the entire car or just parts?

Not sure about you guys but I RARELY put my top up if at all!

Just curious what you guys think about theft / vandalism is more likely with the top up or down?

Crooks will steal anything not nailed down. Several members have had tops slashed and cars broken in to in SF. They are usually after seats and stereos because they can be had most quickly. That's what they stole from me.

A friend's soft top on her Jeep was slashed in SF just so they could grab a small bag she had left in there, there wasn't even anything in it. The irony, she doesn't lock her doors. If thieves don't get it, the damn vandalizers will. There isn't any point to having a nice car when living in SF.
