SA2005 helmet. M is for motorcycles
change brake fluid. 1L of ATE will work. Maybe buy an extra L in case you screw up. motul is 2x more expensive. do not store open brake fluid for more than a few weeks.
make sure you have enough tire and brake pad. keep the tires at about 37 or 38 psi when hot.
have fun

M rated helmets are perfectly fine for HDPE and I don't know of a single HPDE organization that requires a SA rated helmet only.
still needs to be a M2000 or newer helmet tho

But I think that if you're going to make the track a habit, go with an SA rated helmet for the better fire and rollbar multi impact protection

True. I used an M the first time I went out.

Chances are, you're going to be mentally overwhelmed at your first track day. I know I was, trying to soak everything all in.
One thing you can do to save some mental capacity would be to learn the flag definitions ahead of time.
http://www.norcal-saac.org/ot/flags.pdf
Then watch a bunch of youtube videos of thunderhill and pay attention to where all the flaggers are at. This is very important as the flaggers are basically your lifeline out on track. You'll have an instructor sitting w/ you throughout the day, but it doesn't hurt to get a headstart as he/she will probably emphasize the importance of knowing where all the flaggers are at.
