Anyone belong to 11-99?
Just wondering... I know it's a good cause, but is membership any kind of ticket insurance? Anyone have experience with this? (I notice that in addition to a license plate frame, the 11-99 Foundation supplies members a membership card billfold that has a second window for, I presume, a driver's license.)
Years ago, when I lived in the Florida Keys, I had a "Courtesy Card" - otherwise known as a "get out of jail free card" that was issued (unofficially) to "friends" of the Monroe County Sheriff. You were supposed to keep it with your driver's license and give both to the cop if you were stopped. Never got to use mine, which is just as well.

I have it. It has worked for me several times. I don't know how Ev got a ticket... he is a very nice guy. Perhaps the cop was having a bad day or something.
If you expect to get out of the ticket with 11-99, you will get one. If you are genuine with the cop (ie: don't flash the badge in front of their face), I have had 100% success avoiding a ticket 5 times.

If anyone is a member, can you PM me? I want to join, but apparently, you now need a current member to act as a referral before you can join.
Thanks!

Going to get OT here...
This reminds me of the KMA-367 license plate frame that peeps had in SoCal back in the day. Seems intially only cops or family members had these (KMA-367 was the FCC callsign of LAPD). The idea would be that cops would leave you alone b/c you were 'family.' Of course, anyone could have a custom frame made with those letters on it. Then, word got out that some gangbangers would roll up 5 deep on cars with that plate frame since they didn't dig the cops too much.
Come to think of it, I sure don't miss LA.

Thanks for the input - it's kind of what I thought. As for local cops not knowing about 11-99, that's OK because in town I obey all rules. Anyway, I'm mainly concerned about the stretch of Highway 1 between Carmel and Lucia, where my car just seems to want to go fast. I was doing 117 on the straight by Pt. Sur lighthouse a week or so ago and something told me (no, not common sense) to slow down. A couple of rises later, a CHP blew by in the opp direction. A Kreskin moment! I'd gotten it down to about 75 when he passed, so I applied lots of gentle braking so he'd feel properly respected. No ticket that time!
