Default Anyone in the BAY with HARDTOP? HELP!

I'm trying to find dealers in the area who have installed the hardtop before so I can find the cheapest place to have it done since I don't have any confidence in doing the entire job by myself. If you've got one, where'd you have it installed? And for how much? Thanks.

While I don't have one (yet?), I've heard the installation is pretty straightforward for any good tech. I would trust Doten Honda in Berkeley to do mine if I were in Emeryville. Talk to Jim Neilsen, the service department manager and tell him Ed with the Silver S2000 referred you. I've know them for years and they are hands down the BEST Honda service place anywhere.

Silver there recently was not mine. i have not been up there lately. Talk to Jim and see if he can give you a fixed estimate for the hardtop. I know they gotta make some money, but 6-8 hours seems a little excessive. On the other hand, they should learn it right? Hmmm, maybe I'll call him right now and see what he says.

ok, just checked with Jim. He cant afford to lose money on this job. (he really thinks the first ones they do will take 7 hours or so) The instructions for the install is like 13 pages long, so despite the fact it is straightforward, it will take a long time for them to do. (seats, console all come out, new wiring etc...I guess) So, I stand corrected.

You may want to call Larry Hopkins Honda in Sunnyvle (yes, quite a ways from Emeryville) but they too are very reliable, and I know they work on quite a few S2000's. or, you can wait until more dealers have done more of the tops and then do it when they have practiced on someone elses car...just a thought. It 'll be cheaper then too since they will work faster...closer to the 3 1/2 flat rate estimated by Honda. Good luck.

well, just to throw my 2 cents in, I went to doten honda on your recommendation for my 15,000 service and they were AWEFUL!

They tried to rotate the tires, they left the hood unlatched, which I didn't realize until I was on route 80, on top of all that, they let me sit at the Bart station for half hour (at 1 pm in the afternoon) because they forgot which bart station I was at...

Anyway, I called Jim to give him some feedback. After leaving him 5 messages I just gave up.

I have an appointment with Manly Honda in Santa Rosa next week. I'll drive the 2 hours to get good service...

Psicho54,

I installed my own silver hardtop myself. It did take about 7-8 hours, but most of that
was because I was being very careful with everything (hell, if all the trim is coming off,
better I do it, than some stranger!). Now that I've done the install, I think you could probably
do it yourself in 4-5 hours without problems, and save yourself a couple hundred bux in the process.
I ordered my hardtop from H-and-A accessories. They have the installation instructions
posted on the web (the same ones those honda tech will be using). The hardest/most
unconfortable part is banging out one of the plates. Man, that hurt me more than the car
I think, but it's all good in the end
Otherwise, I believe Larry Hopkins has done a few hardtop installs, so you might want
to try there...
