Anybody here rock climb?
I just bought shoes and a harness today. Going to start climbing regularly with the ambition of moving from gyms to the outdoors soon. I've been to Planet Granite once with my friend, after never stepping foot on a rock wall and went immediately to 5.7's (I know don't laugh ). But I figure I was doing better than others, and being my first time I wasn't complainin'! Also I REALLY enjoyed it and thought about joining all the time--but it's pretty damn expensive.
But, I bit the bullet and bought a harness and shoes today. It's all beginner stuff, but that's what I am! Anyways, I'm going to go a few more times, and probably sign up within the next two weeks for a membership, and also the belay class.
I got 5.10 Coyote shoes:

And a Singing Rock Balance II Harness:

For the time being, I'm going to bum a chalk and bag off my friend until next weekend, and also his ATC ( http://www.rei.com/product/729118 ).
So anyone else here gym climb? Would love to go with some s2kiers!

I did it for a few years when I was 17 but I'm not nearly light enough anymore. It's very fun and scary at the same time. We mostly did free climbs up off of 9 and 35, no indoor climbing back then at least none that I knew of.

You don't need to be super strong to do moderate rock climbing. I'm a chubster and I do just fine .
I've decided to set goals and get in to mountaineering too. Goal is to summit Shasta by June '11.
Once I sign up, JP, or anyone else with planet granite, I'll let you use the guest pass so you can see if you like it

I've done it before and liked it but wasn't able to find some folks to go climbing with more regularly.
I'd be down to meet up one night during the week to refresh and do it again..
