A few more questions dealing with getting around town.

I'm sure you all know that Houston does not have mass transit, so I'm wondering if I'll be needing to rent a car.

1.) If I do rent a car, how's the parking situation? Is it worth the hassle?

2.) Will I be able to get around pretty easily with cabs, trolly, etc.?

Thanks.

parking in SF isn't too bad. hotel parking will probably be like $20/night. sf isnt a taxi town, although you still can get them, i think it's too expensive. i'd just rent the cheapest econo box you can get.

I'd have to give a strong 2nd vote for a visit to Napa Valley wineries. not only will you be crossing the Golden Gate bridge, you will be seeing some of the most beautiful scenery in the Bay Area. I'm sure if you looked around online you could find perhaps some discounted coupons or tours of various wineries, and plan your itinerary accordingly. A fun one-day tour might be to go wine tasting until about 1 or 2 in the afternoon, then make your way up to Guerneville and swim in the Russian River to cool off. It's a quaint little town surrounded by sequoias/redwoods-- I'm not sure which-- but either way, big trees, beautiful scenery, very laid-back people. Then perhaps follow that road out to the coast, and eat some seafood in or near Bodega Bay, where a lot of the small fishermen bring in their catch. Maybe even find a nice beach to watch the sunset. Then head south that afternoon or evening on Hwy 1, enjoy our beautiful coastline, and you can then cross the GG bridge again and see the magnificent city lights of SF at night.

You two are gonna LOVE it here!! I'm excited for both of you! oh yes, and congrats on your anniversary! that's a fantastic milestone.

After looking at the SacIIDays post, I've have to say "YES". That could be the end of the romantic weekend and definitely not on the agenda.

Carmel is quite a drive away from SF-- 2+ hrs. Napa is closer by an hour, and has more to see.
