If you still want to go to Hwy 9 to 1:
From 9 you can turn off onto 236 (it's a loop)heading toward Big Basin, turn onto Jamison Creek, take Empire Grade and then Bonny Doon Drive (I believe it is) this will take you to Hwy 1.
9 might still be too crowded for everyone's tastes though.
There are also good drives off of Skyline, but I'd have to look at a map to name a route.

I'm going to the Sacto Delta this weekend for some wake boarding and beer drinking, if anyones interested in driving to Sacramento? Didn't think so....
Anywho, one of my favorite drives is highway 84 (Woodside road) West to King's Mountain road to Skyline North to Hwy 92 west to HalfMoon Bay to 1 south, back over Hwy 9 or 17. Long fun and beautiful. Wanna cut it short, take King's mountain to skyline, go south, to 84 interchange, get lunch at Alice's resturant, then go south to Pagemill or Alpine or just take 84 back down (east). Have a great run, I'll catch the next one.
Peace out,
andy

236 will most likely be extremely crowded...on non-holidays i run into lots of traffic there. 84 has many cops, especially on holiday weekend.
if anyone wants to drive, i suggest finding smaller less populated roads or go away from the area...i.e. south of big sur.
my favorite drive is up page mill, down alpine thru pescadero to hwy 1. too small a road for cops to sit on

I agree with Josh3io...
The cops will be everywhere this weekend.
I have done the Pescadero/Alpine route years ago, as I recall our backseat passengers (we were in my '86 Accord) weren't too happy with that road, which means it may be time to revisit it....
