ALmost lost my S =(
I was in San Francisco on christmas eve, it was 11:30pm , I was trying to hang that right turn on to geary street from park presidio. I was going around 30mph, and tried to drift it. screeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeech! My rear tires lost traction cause it was bald down to the steel wires.... all of a sudden, my car started to swing hard clockwise, soon my entire car busted a crazy donut right in the middle of geary street! my car automatically shut off, whew what a rush! No injury to my passenger, me or my S...... but scary as hell.... only 1 and a half inches from losing my rear left side of the car........ lesson to be learned.... no more driving on wet surfaces with bald bridgestone s03's. them brand new s03's lasted only 3 months, i got them in september.... they're down to metal threads now... just got some bridgestone re470's today for 320.00 including installation....did i get ripped off? =) mark

you must really put those rear tires through alot if you are buring them out so fast. but then again you mentioned trying to drift on a city street? 
Well, with the 740's you'll probably have less traction so drifting will be easier. while it would be beter to save that for the track, just keep in mind that other folks on the road may be more unpredictable and you may end up in a more serious predicament than you already did.
Actual lessons to be learned... 1) dont drift (or push car to any of its limits) on public roads 2) driving with ANY bald street tires in this car is DEFINTELY a bad risk, wet or dry.
Drive safe and have a happy holiday.

On what criteria does it shut off? Having spun my car many, many times I can say the times it did or didn't stall were almost entirely due to whether I got the clutch back in before the lack of forward motion stalled the motor.

Nope it shuts off even if the clutch is depressed fully. It is a safety measure that cuts the fuel to the car incase there is a collision
the car will only shut off if he hit something! and you have to hit somthing W/ the same force that is required to deploy the airbag! all he did was spin!
