Be careful between the Sunol grade and Pleasanton. It seems to be under heavy patrol these days. I have seen a CHP in that stretch on every trip at a variety of hours since Thursday.

Daym!! That is one of my most favorite stretches to hit speed. I have reached top speed in my previous cars there on several occasions LATE at night. I must re-iterate it was late (I never passed a single car while doing this), like around 3-4AM. I have hit 150+ at least three times there. I dont think I will ever hit those speed again unless I am on the track, but every once and a while it is nice to run the stook up to 110-115. I guess I will have to find another place...

Hehehe... ditto! A couple days before I wrote that, I was suckin' down gas at about 115 the other night in the same place. It was about 3:30 am, and I was heading home from (really late) work. I rounded the corner that's just before the Calaveras/84 exit and a CHP was RIGHT in front of me!! Couln't miss the reflector label on the back of his car.
Fortunately I was getting off on Calaveras anyway, and he had JUST passed the exit. I dunno if he tried to turn around, but I was GONE down Calaveras before he had a chance.
For all I know, I could be the reason they are patrolling that stretch. Too bad my stook is still sitting in the garage with a doughnut on it from a rock slide.

All last week it seemed like the police were out in force, every time I went out I saw a cop, and usually they had someone pulled over. I even saw a white suburban stealth cop (with red and blue strobes hidden in the grill and behind the smoke rear window) on 880 pull over a bimmer near 237. Keep your eyes out and your radar detectors on guys. (I have mine hardwired in to turn on with the ignition)

I've seen a stealth Suburban CHP with the lights in the grille on Calaveras several times. He is hard to see, but he doesn't seem to pull anyone over... either that or he does not use his radar. I've blown by him (going in the opposite direction) several times with no reaction at all.
Saw three CHP on the same stretch again on the way to work this morning. This is really cramping my style. Good think Sparky is still sitting in the garage with a doughnut.
(I did get the new tire put on the wheel today... plan to put it on the car when I get home!)

Did you guys read the Mercury news article stating the shortage of CHP officer's? Seems since 1970 the number of CHP on the roads in the Bayarea have increased a negliable amount while people on the roads have increased ten fold. The counties just don't have the resources to high CHP's anymore. In 1970 you had a 1 in 5 chance of getting pulled over by CHP, now its 1 in 10.
