I went with my friend in the old Minivan....we took his grandson so no S2K on this trip. Besides he has a Handicap placard so we got to park on nice solid asphalt down by the shops outside Turn 11 and got a shuttle out to the paddock. We simply went up the new elevator (!) to the top of the new grandstand and sat on the new dry individual seats under the new roof and watched everyone slither around. No mud, no hiding in the car with the wipers on.
I am not making any of this crap up...many of you know I am OLD as sh*t and my buddy is older than me. Sorry we missed the muddy "rice rocket show" (NOT!) but the race kicked ass....GO PANOZ I always say
Anyway it may not be the Sears Point of old (I first went for the Trans Am in September of 1969; Mark Donohue won it in the Penske Camaro) but it is what modern road courses are coming to. Not many areas where you can wander and sit and watch, then wander some more. But perfect if you gotta pack 125,000 into reserved seats for NASCAR. You gotta love it.....

Hey Andrew;
Yeah those two guys in that car drinking beer with the windows all steamed up look really cool...HEY, wha' the f**k its YOU!
I don't think you can get a handicap placard for your tail-sliding (I did enjoy it from right behind you on the way back to Sylvain's though) Like my old fart friend Jeff all it takes is a hip replacement (in his case TWO...and for the same freakin' hip) but it sure comes in handy at races.
Re: Panoz-reliability fer sheer but did you happen to see the THIRD one in the garage after David Donohue stuffed it big time in the warm-up? Tub was definitely tweaked and the mechanics just hauled it in and covered it up. No effort to get it fixed so Donohue and Jeannette sat this one out. Compare the effort to the two Mugen-powered cars. Besides outright speed nothing sounds like that 6-liter Elan Ford in the factory cars. That Mugern scream hurt my ears! But look out for the Audis after Le Mans, I think they will be back to dominate again
