Default 40 miles "new"

A dealer called tonight. They just swapped out a Silver S2K for a Suzuka Blue one. Which means they have my blue one available tomorrow. BUT, they drove it from one dealer to the other so it has about 40 miles on it.

How critical is that first 40 miles to the break in?

Should I take this one or wait another 2 weeks for one that has only the normal 5-8 miles?

Thanks for the advice.

You should ask them how they drove it.

Honestly, even if they did abuse it, 40 miles is not going to make a hill of beans of difference.

wait 2 weeks. not to say that the 40 miles will make that much of a difference, but if you gotta ask, its probably important enough for you to just wait for a "lower mileage" new car...does that make sense?

I agree with warren that it s probably not that big a deal, but...2 wks for sense of security that the car has not been abused in any way may be worth it for you...FWIW, I picked up my car new with 324 miles on it from the guy who picked it up for me. No big deal.

As long as they didn't exceed the recommended engine speed and the car hasn't been out on any test drives, I wouldn't worry about it.

My car had 425 miles on it when I picked it up because somebody else brought it into California from Oregon. I've never worried about what happened during those miles.

My bigger concern is the 20 or so total miles that Dublin Honda has put on my car for the two services I've had there. They told me they had to make sure everything was working right. I'm just afraid they were making sure the VTEC and rev limiter were working.
