This is my impression after seeing the 350Z "live", up close.

Just got back from the Nissan Dealership. They got a demo car.

It was a Chrome Silver, base model with "nothing" on it. MSRP $27000, $10,000 markup = $37,000.

It is way bigger than the S2K. It looks very nice though, especially from behind. The front looks a bit too thick. The 17" standard wheels, look too sedanish.... The 18" should look great.

I sat in the interior for a while. You feel "lonely" inside, cuz the interior is so roomy. It is a 2 seater but there is lots of room in the back. When you are inside the S2K, you feel secure and you feel that you are part of the car. I guess I am just a small guy. Larger guys would appreciate the 350z's interior more. Seats are comfortable, "better" than the bucket seats on the S2K.

The 350z's interior looks nicer in real life than magazines. In real life, it is not that cheap..... Visibility to the backview is not very good, when you do overshoulder looks. The rear window looks weird from the driver seat. Maybe I am too used to driving topdown with the S2K.

The best thing about this car is the shifter. Nissan DID it!!!!!!! It is short and it feels good, almost like the S2K's.

The salesman was very nice. I asked about the $10,000 markup, and he said it was just BS. If I was serious, he could get me the car for $3,000 over and I can order any color and any model I want, and it will be here in 2 months.

The car was in the showroom, so I couldn't test drive it.......

Overall impression:

It is different from an S2K, but it is a very nice car, bang for the buck. You must at least get the Performance model with 18" wheels and HID. For around $31,000 plus tax (Performance model), this is a very nice car. For people who don't like convertibles and love torquey and sporty coupes, this is your choice for around $30K

Any mark-up on the car is BS. Wasn't Nissan taking pre-orders, through their website, at sticker?

Any mark up atthispoint is really just a "convenience fee" for thoise who walk in and want instant gratification.

I saw a black touring edition this weekend at the dealership in Dublin. A few points: the car is much bigger than I had expected it to be, the interior has enough room to be a 2+2 (which looks strange with only two seats), and so far Dublin has received two of their preordered cars and neither owner opted to pick it up. So either they couldn't wait for a car they already put $2k on or they didn't like it as much up close. Personally I was disappointed.

Haha

1) 2+2 with only 2 seats? Sounds like a G35 coupe

2) Sedanish? Sounds like a G35 coupe... oh wait...

3) a 3.5L engine? sounds like a Nissan XXXXX oh wait....

How do you make a car unique within a line of cars, while trying to create a line of cars that all uses the same parts?

What would you say if you found out that the G35 coupe was going to be offered with a Brembo brake upgrade package?

A person at work has a deposit down for one of these and she says her delivery date has been pushed from Oct to Nov and muttered something about Nissan's financial problems as well.
I certainly hope that when/if she gets this, it'll be as nice as what everyone ELSE says. I still like the 300zx's and would hate to see Nissan bastardize the Z tradition.

Comon carlson, yer congratulating Nissan for ALMOST making a shifter as nice as the S2k's? Thats like saying that someone should get props for making and OS ALMOST as good as Win98.

ok.. that was bad, but figure that the S2k has been out for going on 4 years, shouldn't a car with a "Track" model be striving for something better? Maybe it's just preference and your own conscience speaking.
