Default 2001 monterey historics-an open invitation!

well..it's official..my bugatti got accepted at monterey for this year..as a few souls will remember, last year i was black-flagged from the race for certain..ah..technical/aesthetic violations..this year i have set all things right and wish to extend a warm invitation to my pit space for libations and cosmic car talk....your general admission ticket will allow you pit access and i'll be situated amongst the pre-war[older than 1939] cars....pretty easy to find.....last year a couple of old-time s2k types made it by and we had a great time....now with all the bay area owners some are bound to attend..the dates are aug 17.18.19.....friday is a good day to come...no races but all cars have practice sessions,8;00am thru 5;00pm...sat is practice for the sat groups in the am and racing starts noonish...my race, group 2a, [1927-1946 racing cars] starts at 1;30 pm...sunday is the second half of the groups..[usually newer stuff as some older cars are invited to pebble beach concours [in my dreams!!!] . so com'on down, see the monterey bay area on the best car weekend known to man and stop by and see what a REAL supercharger looks[and sounds] like!!.......dbw

BTW..meat [late of the infamous chicago seven] will most likely be there..a possible maybe for greg stevens as well....i would hope he will make an advance trip to check things out for s2kdays.....one would think.....HEY GREG!!!GET YER SKINNY WHITE ASS OUT HERE!!!

I accept your invitation with great pleasure. What model Bugatti do you have? I've been looking forward to coming to the Historic Races for years, and now that we're living on the peninsula this looks like the year to do it.

Had not previously planned on including the Historics in this year's racing plans....I do consider it the Greatest Car Weekend Known to Humankind but due to attendance at Fontana NASCAR in addition to Formula One Indy I had to pass on a couple of events this season. And somehow despite this year's Le Mans effort by Bentley that is not a marque that excites me a lot. But now that we have an S2K owner who participates, a brief Friday visit might be in order.

Jeez. fairly outspoken reaction there dbw. I partially agree with you, but you need to include the Cobras, GT-40's, McLarens and 250 GTO's to really begin to achieve the true essence of the event IMHO. Maybe I am just too young to appreciate the pre-war and early-Fifties stuff as much as those intoxicating cars of the Sixties and early Seventies. As well as my heroes like Gurney, Clark, Parnelli, Follmer et al. Sorry, not familiar with the exploits of Bournat but if he finished 3rd at Monaco in '30 he had to have had something going on....

Dbw,
I would love to see your car, but I can't make it that weekend. I put that here because I always appreciate your auto knowledge and would enjoy seeing the bug.
parenthetically, I can't believe you ditched the 914. Did it have rust? Always impressed me as a great idea for the money- that group of import sports cars (l lump it with the 240z, opel Gt, and Saab sonnett) was an intersting breath of fresh air(well, except for the opel- but it did have those nifty hidden headlights!). I chose my '76 alfa over a 914 and always wondered if i'd made the right choice...

good choice..well..an alfa is always an alfa...even the old 4-doors are cool...but there's always the head gasket/wet liner gremlin....the 914 however had the habit of springing a leak in the hi-pressure injector hoses...thus effectively turning it into a blowtorch.....i think that's part of the" character" some people think the s2000 lacks....

The rumors are true - I will be there. I will for sure find you this year dbw. I missed you last year although I did get a picture of you on the track.

I will be in Wednesday through Monday if anyone wants to get together for a drink.

I will be scouting some of the hotel spots for S2KDays as well. Hopefully we will have a date by the time I leave!!
