Default 102 MPH in 3rd (by dealer !!!)

I took a friend to see a Prelude at a Honda Dealer in the south bay, while there I was looking at a yellow s2000 in the showroom.
A young salesman came over and asked if I was interested ( he didn't know I have one ).

He said these cars are really fast, "there's a silver one in the back, a customers car, two of us drove it. It was at 102 mph in third gear ! " He seemed very proud, but had no idea that he was doing something very wrong.

You can be sure I'll never have my car serviced there !!!

Hey MM,

Can you please advise which dealer you are referring to? Just want to make sure I stay out of that one, too.

Thanks in advance.

Sorry but what is wrong with 102mph in the third gear?
Sounds about right.. It may actually be around 95 in 9000 but maybe they were going down the hill?

Hmm or is air resistance force at 100mph stonger than the gravity?
What speed would an s2000 thrown from an airplane nose down stabilize at?

I have downshifted at over 100 into 3rd.. but I am decelerating for a turn.

You can NOT do more than 95 in 3rd without being way past the rev limiter.

Gil, that's exactly the point. Each of us can drive our cars as hard as we want to, but I don't expect a car salesman to abuse the car when it's at the dealer for service. They can not drive a new one, so what does that leave them to drive, YOUR car, when it's
there for service !

Marvin,

Please post which dealer you visited. I'm sure all of us would be wary to have service done there.... I would be extremely pissed off if some service guy drove my s2k that hard - unless it was to diagnose something that only happens at that kind of load (yeah, right!).

The Dealer is Honda of Gilroy. Incidentially, they STILL have dealer markup of $10,000 on the windshield. No wonder the salesmen can not drive the new cars, they must be gold to the dealer !

Sorry I missed that it was not a dealer's car, I thought the point was the dealer's incompetence about how fast the car can go in the third gear.
I would definitely be extremely upset if it was my car and would perhaps even try to get him fired

Now its been VTEC'd. Sorry to hear it, Marvin. I respect your view that its OK not to, but now maybe you can try it just once. The car has.
