I just had a similar problem with my wireless at home. I couldnt get connected with either my desktop or laptop. i was not able to ping anything. I had to reconfigure the router. Actually all i had to do was reset the parameters and it works fine now. I am using a SMC router and SMC PCI card and PCCARD..well no longer a SMC PC CARD cuz it broke in two, so I am now using an IBM Wireless card that i found in my desk.

Maybe you should upgrade your OS to XP.
