Default 06'-07' S2k Recall

Hey guys, I just read an article that those who own 06'-07' s2ks have a recall on brake booster parts that weren't made to specs.

"Honda announced a recall today affecting over 13,000 Acura RSX compact cars and roughly 5,000 Honda S2000 sports cars.

The affected Acuras are from the 2006 model year and the Hondas from 2006 and 2007. Some power brake booster parts weren’t made to specification, which could decrease braking power over time. The company says it hasn’t received any reports of accidents as a result of the defect.

There also aren’t any complaints related to brakes losing power in either of the cars on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website."

Wow this late in the game. That's interesting. Props to Honda for owning up to it. I wonder if Edward nortons character from fight club had any involvement with the investigation.

Checked through Honda's Owners Link website. Nothing yet about a recall.

I called the phone number and both my RSX and S2000 are affected by the recall. The phone rep mentioned letters would be sent out. Any suggestions for a reputable Honda dealer to get this work done? Can a shop like BlackTrax or Foreign Affair handle these repairs?

technical service bulletin work & recalls are only handled by dealerships.

one of joey's guys works at an acura dealership. he prob can rec a good dealership. my friend's company, Custom Car Alarms, does the alarms at/in SF Honda, but not sure if i trust any of their techs. i've been out of touch w/the Honda/Acura scene, esp while I was living in SoCal, but aren't too many I used to trust around here. if joey doesn't know, i'll ask my other friend, kevin, that owns Auto HQ. he's an ex-Subaru tech at Carlsen Subaru. I think he's a Master Honda tech too.

According to a statement by American Honda Regarding Brake Booster Recall: 2006-2007 Honda S2000 and 2006 Acura RSX, mid-July.

Thanks for the suggestion! I met Joey's tech (forgot his name) the last time I was there getting my RSX serviced. I'll ping Joey.

thank you. i actually just got off the phone w/someone at American Honda's customer service line. he said that owners do NOT have to wait for recall notices. you can just go into your local dealership and have the work done. there's no timeframe or expiration date/deadline either. naturally, he did recommend that an appointment be made in advance.

as for a rough rundown of the work being performed, the rep said that they're going to replace the brake booster because the current ones "might have possibly been assembled incorrectly, which COULD cause a hard pedal under braking and require more effort to be applied."

i'm gonna try to have this done w/in the next couple of weeks. just need to figure out which dealership to use. oh, in case it isn't clear, any authorized Honda dealer in the US will honor the recall and perform the work.
