ST5/TT5 S2000 Adventures
Greetings everyone,
I usually don't post much on forums but since this car has such a rich history I feel like I should keep it going.
So after ~21 hours of driving and $109.08 in tolls a new to me 05 NFR S2000 appeared in my garage.
Work began quickly
First things first, Borrow your wife's professional vinyl removal tool and get to work.
Since I will be sharing this car with my wife she did not want to run my number and I was forbidden from running 732, we had to come up with a new one.
I came up with 131 for January 31st (our wedding anniversary) and she quickly approved though she wanted to pick the font cause she didn't want to it be "boring" So here it is:
So what do you do with a track car once you buy it? Imminently take it to the track of course.
5 days after it appeared in my garage it participated in it's 1st event with me at the wheel with NASA Great Lakes @ Autobahn Country Club in Joliet, IL
The car was a blast to drive and exactly what I was looking for. Very happy with my purchase.
So how did the car do?
1st place both days and broke the TT5 track record on the 3rd timed session on Saturday.
Terrible video of the lap, exposure is way off I think I resolved it for the later sessions but this one was a "whiteout"
But no track weekend is without drama, on that same session the track record I broke the track record a few things happened.
1. I forgot to put the oil cap back on the car after topping it off, needless to say needed to clean the engine bay up a bit after that. That's what I get for rushing no excuses totally on me.
2. I somehow picked up a puncture on the drivers front.
After repairing the tire and going out the next day to see how it would hold noticed some abnormal metal on metal grinding when getting off track.
Ended up finding that I ran out of rear pad due to a caliper issue. So I parked it for the rest of the day but my time from the AM was sufficient to bring home another 1st place finish.
So who am I and what are plans for the car?
I'm a time trial driver / instructor with NASA Great Lakes where I campaigned a TT4 Evo X with decent success. I've had my eye on making the switch to W2W for about a year now but both my wife and I agreed that the Evo was not a good fit.
We have a 05 Berlina S2k that my wife was using as her HPDE car and our 2nd vehicle. The plan was to slowly convert that into an ST5 W2W car but after meeting Mr Sick Day Racing himself at nationals we worked something out and the rest is history.
Both the Evo and the S2k are for sale at the moment as we are now going to share the new to us S2k.
The plan with the car is over the winter to finish up the few things it will need to go full W2W and do comp school in the spring.
Some pic of the heavy pig and the daily
