Who the heck is Heikki Kovalainen...
Initially my reaction is 'who cares' if Montagny is replaced, I mean I don't recall hearing anything extraordinary about him, but if his work has been good and Flavio just keeps the whole test driver thing quiet, then maybe this potential Heikki could be a factor in '06.

Montagny Parts Ways with Renault

Frenchman Franck Montagny has left the Renault team and is now in talks with Jordan over a racing seat for the 2006 season. Montagny had been Renault's test and reserve driver since 2003 but he is expected to be replaced by Finn Heikki Kovalainen for the 2006 season.
The French driver, however, is hoping to land a racing seat with the Midland team next year and said negotiations are already well advanced.

Heikki Kovalainen is next flying Finn ! He's doing wonders in the GP2 series and has shown a real "talent" for natural speed . Dialing in to a car and getting the most out of a 'sub standard' car.. All of the qualities previously seen in MS and Kimi.. However , all done at a GP2 level.. who knows when he enters F1 ? he may stink ?
Really he's the next big thing to hit Formula One..
indeed, Montagny was a nobody ..

HK, won the world driver championship Last Dec in France.. He beat MS
I know its not truly a test.. but he did beat MS
As a hater of ANY F1 team that doesnt say Honda.. I definately do not want HK partnering FA at Renault!

HK is second in this year's GP2 series behind Nico Rosberg. It will be interesting to see which of these two does better in F1. Rosberg may have a tough time next year in the Williams.

Along with beating MS head to head in a 360cs he beat Sebastien Loeb in a Citroen rally car at the race of Champions. Peter Windsor is a huge proponent. On one of the F1 prerace shows he has was talking about a ride along with him in a street car and said that he is incredible. His coordination of control inputs were very smooth and naturally flowing. I think he definitely has talent.

Maybe WWE-ish but the characters are not some chest waxed pretty boys, they are race drivers. I know Michael wasn't being paid Ferrari money to be out there and win but you can't tell me he wants some 20 y/o nobody spanking his a$$ in front of the whole world.
