2005: A Formula One Report Card
Formula One Class of 2005
TSN.ca Staff; 10/19/2005 11:18:13 AM

Following a season which saw Ferrari's dominance in Formula One come to a crashing halt and a new king ascend to the throne, it's time to look back and assess the 2005 crop of F1 drivers:

Fernando Alonso, Renault (A) - will return with Renault in 2006
The Spaniard has matured into one of the sport's elite drivers, winning seven races and collecting 15 podium finishes. He proved he could go toe-to-toe with the best by holding off Michael Schumacher to win at Imola and twice took on the Ferrari driver in Japan to claim third place. His only blemish on the season came in Canada where he hit the wall.

Kimi Raikkonen, McLaren (A-)- will return with McLaren in 2006
He certainly had the car to beat, especially late in the season. Unfortunately, the driver can only drive and its up to the team to provide him with reliability, something that was sorely missing from Mercedes this season. His climb through the field from 17th on the starting grid to win in Japan has to be the highlight of the season.

You all know i am a Honda Fan.
I do not agree with the grade JB got. He scored points in 10 straight races. The car was just WAY off the pace in compared to R and Mc.
IMO, he deserves at least the grade JPM or GF got.

Agreed. He may not have what it takes to win races but he was plenty quick given the car he was under. GF had arguably the best or 2nd best car and look at his total points.

Also disagreed with RS.

A lot of those grades appear to be more about the car than the driver.
