Moto GP at Laguna
My wife and I are going to Moto GP in July. It will be our first time at Laguna and I'd like to get some advise from the locals on what might be the good plan for the race day.
We're staying downtown San Francisco so first thing I'd like to know is what is the best way to get to Laguna. Should we take Hwy 1 or 101? How long will it take us factoring in race day traffic?
The next is when should we try to get there? Our seats are General Admission and I'd like to camp out by the Corkscrew. I figure this will be the spot to be and it'll probably fill up pretty quick. How early should we get there? Right as the gates open? An hour before the morning warm up? 5 minutes before the race?
Appreciate the heads up.

Highway 1 will take some time. If you take highway 101, look around 2 hours.
I've never gone down the day of any event at Laguna, so I can't really comment on traffic, but it will probably be the biggest event there all year.
I usually hang out at the top of the hill at the Corkscrew, but I usually face the front of the track. You can see the most turns from there. There is plenty of sitting space on the hill.

The 101 is your best bet, but allow plenty of time for the last leg of the trip. The road into Laguna will be VERY crowded that day. I'd get there pretty early if you can. Bring a picnic lunch, relax, and have a good time. The hill Voodoo mentioned is definitely the spot to watch from. It affords the best views, and is great to take pictures from as well. Not only do you get the great view of corkscrew, but look at what's behind you.
(when the damn photos are working. )
Just make sure you wear comfy shoes; it's a bit of a climb.
Have a blast; it's great to see the bikes returning.
