So I have a question for you, how can they say that FA blocked on accident? I don't see how you can get penilazed(sp?) for accidently doing something that only gets you in trouble for doing it on purpose.....
I bet the answer is yes!
Same thing here...just because FA did not realize (or may have we have no way of knowing) he was impeding FM, the team should have radioed him that FM is behind you on a hot lap....

I saw the video of the incident and I think FA was unfairly penalized. You can say he was not on a "hot lap" because his tires were cold but he was giving it all he had to beat the clock to get a real hot lap.
Does this mean the backmarkers in the first Qual period should be accused of blocking because they can't drive any faster? Nonsense! Blocking is an act of intention by modifying your racing line to accomplish it. If the stewards agree there was no intention (and I saw none in the limited video clip) then the complaint is just bogus to me.
Maybe the team suggested making the complaint but FM loses points in my book. This championship needs to be decided on the track and in the pits, not by the stewards!

How about the fact that Alonso was also pushing so he could make it back to the line to make one final lap. He barely made it, if you check out the times, there was no way he could slow enough to hold off massa and make it back to the line in time. It was total B.S., and it is Massa's and Ferrari's fault.....they filed the protest.

A press release with Brawn defending Ferrari is as credible as a press release with Briatore defending Renault. What else are they going to say?

Glad I saw this thread. Matrix seems to have explained the issue. I was one of those wondering how FA could have been considered to be blocking, but the issue of Massa losing downforce at the parabolica makes sense, and since FA was not technically on a qual lap I can see how they can call it 'blocking'. But it was really tough for Fernando - had he slowed to let Massa by he would have never gotten his own last qual lap in, yet in staying out front, just about in a position to affect Massa's downforce in a downforce turn, he technically blocked.
Perhaps the FIA should have described it as affecting Massa's downforce and not 'blocking' in the first place.
