I'm not a NASCAR fan, AT ALL.
However, it must me noted that NASCAR drivers have to RACE, for the entire race. F1 drivers RACE, to the first corner. Then they RACE, to the first pit stop. Then they RACE, to the next pit stop. Any racing that happens outside of that is a worthwhile novelty, that only happens about every 5 races or so.
There is no form of top-level automobile racing that is worth watching these days. I miss the early-mid-90s days of IndyCar/CART...

So? He can win in pretty much anything, NASCAR, Indy, dirt track etc-hell, throw him into ANY type of racing, he can be a contender.
A 'driver' can be at the top of any form of racing, as long as he/she has the skills. The problem I have with F1 drivers is that all they do is drive F1. When was the last time you saw a current F1 driver, race in something that was alien to them? Did Prost/Senna/Schumacher ever contend in a non-open wheel race? Senna race in the Dakar Rally? Prost ever compete at Daytona (either the 500 or the 24hrs)? Schumacher ever do a short track modified race? And if anybody thinks that driving a 800hb modified dirt track race car is easy--I dare you to try it. A helluva lot more car control is involved with that than what you think.

Mika Hakkinene = DTM
Michael Shumacher = Motorcycle Road Racing
If you're talking current, on the payroll F1 drivers, I doubt you'll ever see it. They have such tight contracts that I'm sure forbid them from endangering themselves outside of an F1 car. These companies put so much money into F1 that they don't want to risk anything outside of it.

I used to taunt Michael Andretti since my wife and I used to attend many CART races every year and we would run into him frequently. After Mikey was fired from the Mac team and he headed back to the US. He was signing autographs at a Target in Riverside Ca before the Long Beach GP for CART cars. We live in Newport Beach and there is a animosity with the people of this inland community we call them 909'ers (ref to their phone area codes) and those of us who live on the sand. I was picking up some machined parts for my kart in Riverside and the wife stopped in the store to pick up some consumables. I went in the store looking for her. I stopped in front of Mikey at the table he was signing and stared at him for a long while. He looked up and said what? I told him a year ago he was in Monaco in F1 and now he is in a Target in Riverside signing pieces of paper for the mullet crowd. Oh how the mighty have fallen
He did not seem pleased by my comment
