Indy was a great venue for the USGP. Lots of seats with a great view of the circuit, LOTS of parking. Local experience with putting on large events, Great track food, including $5 Fosters king cans and Indy has a better than you might expect downtown.
I went to 6 F1 races at Indy and two Moto GP and I never failed to have a great time.

And another thing! Indy had about the most fan friendly cooler policy as you find in this country. It boils down to, make sure it fits under the seat and no glass. Perfectly reasonable.
You know a race in NJ wouldn't allow coolers, so you'd end up spending $25 a day just on a couple beers and staying hydrated.
Watching practice and quals with a couple of cold ones and a speedway dog.... Good times...
