10 Reasons Why 2007 Will Be Better Than 2006

With a couple of changes here and there, and a few new race winners and potential title winners on the grid, the 2007 F1 season promises to be even better than last year's nail-biting Championship.

Here's why...

ONE World Champion swapping to a new team. Fernando Alonso has made the switch from Renault to McLaren for the 2007 season. Which means that the Spaniard will no longer be racing for the team with whom he won two consecutive World titles and will instead be racing for a team that failed to win a single race in 2006.

TWO new British rookies will make up part of the grid. Lewis Hamilton and Anthony Davidson, who have both been touted as stars of the future, will be competing in their first full seasons in F1 in 2007. Hamilton will be racing for McLaren, while Davidson will be behind the wheel of a Super Aguri.

THREE top teams with new lead drivers. Renault, Ferrari and McLaren, the three top teams in 2006, will all feature new number one drivers in 2007. Renault, who lost Fernando Alonso, will be pinning their hopes on Giancarlo Fisichella, Ferrari's charge will be lead by former McLaren driver Kimi Raikkonen and McLaren's bid will be in the hands of ex-Renault driver, Alonso.

FOUR teams capable of winning both titles. Along with Renault, Ferrari and McLaren, Honda could also stand a chance of winning this year's World titles. Retaining the same line-up as they had in 2006, Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello, and having finally won their maiden race last season, Honda enter this year's Championship as one of the teams capable of winning the titles.

FIVE new drivers on the grid. Lewis Hamilton, Heikki Kovalainen and Adrian Sutil, as well as returnees Anthony Davidson and Alex Wurz, are the five new faces on the 2007 grid.

SIX, the number of teams that are swapping to Bridgestone tyres. Renault, McLaren, Honda, BMW Sauber, Red Bull and Toro Rosso all used Michelin rubber in 2006 and will have to get used to Bridgestone rubber in time for the 2007 season.

SEVEN-times World Champion Michael Schumacher won't be on the grid. Often a controversial figure in F1, 2007 will be the first year since 1991 that Schumacher won't be competing in F1. And while that may be heart-wrenching to some, it will be fascinating to learn how F1 will cope without the legendary driver.

EIGHT-month long season. The 2007 F1 season will run for eight months. Starting in March with the Australian Grand Prix, the Championship will end in October at the Interlagos circuit in Brazil. Unlike last year, though, the season will consist of only 17 races.

NINE past race winners. Alonso, Fisichella, Massa, Raikkonen, Button, Barrichello, Ralf, Trulli and Coulthard, who have all won F1 grands prix, will be racing in 2007.

TEN weeks until the season starts. As of today (Thursday 4th January) there is exactly ten weeks to go until the first official FIA press conference, which will be held on Thursday 15th March in Australia, kicks off the first grand prix weekend of the 2007 Formula One season.
