AMAZING, totally amazing
Alessandro Zanardi. The former CART great who endeared himself to American racing fans of all stripes as "Alex" Zanardi before a horrific accident in Lausitz, Germany, took his legs and almost cost him his life, won the 14th round of the World Touring Car Championship last weekend. For Zanardi, who uses his prosthetic legs to work the brakes and operates the throttle from the steering wheel, it was one of the most incredible achievements in motorsports history - a triumph of incalculable proportion. Congratulations, Alex and well done!

This great driver had both his legs wripped off at his nuts, no one thought he would live, certainly no one ever thought he would walk, and here he is a few years later winning a car race against some of the best driver's in Germany! Am I only one besides Cordycord that thinks it's something special. They don't have an icon for shaking your head.

Another feat demonstrating what a true champion is made of. The human spirit never ceases to amaze me.
So many great stories of people superating enormous obstacles or beating truly incredible odds.
As an avid cyclist, my favorite has to be Lance Armstrong's incredible comeback from Cancer to win The tour de France... SEVEN CONSECUTIVE times, but this victory for Alex is also very special, when you consider the competition...Awesome.
Thanks for sharing!

Yes he is
I'll bet he's read the Douglas Bader story by now too.
You have to admire Zanardi, that's determination.

What do you consider to be the amazing part? Driving well with no legs, or coming back to racing after almost being killed by it?

Mike, rather than answer that, I recommend you read his book and make up your own mind. As I recall the title was My Greatest Victory. I just passed in on to a racing friend of mine.
