Default ABC to Broadcast Four Grands Prix

ABC will be broadcasting the Monaco, Canadian, Italian and US Grands Prix this year:

http://uk.sports.yahoo.com/020308/230/ctj7e.html

With three races on which to practice, perhaps by the time they get to the USGP this year the announcers will be able to identify the cars, or at least the teams, and to pronounce the drivers' names.

One can hope.

Since this situation exists mainly due to the influence of Tony
George I am deathly afraid they will use the current IRL "talent" already on the payroll. The only thing worse than last year's coverage (which I missed due to attending the race)would be to include the absolutely worse, bottom of the barrel anchor available....I am referring to Paul Page of course. I honestly believe DW and Larry Mac would do a better job.

For someone like me who can't get The Speed Channel, this is great news. Even if the commentators are clueless, at least I will have moving images.
I was really hoping with Speed being owned by FOX, there would be delayed broadcasts on a FOX channel, bit so far, no luck. I just have to keep relying on my friends who can tape the races for me.
Thanks magician for the news!

You better hope the races end on time because ABC will cut away to golf before the race is complete if it runs over its time slot. I'm also sure we can look forward to a wonderful IRL production of an F1 race. The good news is that I don't think they could do a worse job than they did on the USGP last year.

Speded Channel sucks. Coverage of Monterrey CART race was awful. I got really tired of seeing the commercial with guys tipping over a rhino.

I guess we'll be in for more awful commentating..

That is the only redeeming factor for living in Canada, is that we get the live feed from ITV.. (Allens/Brundle). For those who don't know, the ITV is the UK version of CART's former ABC coverage. They actually go to the race, speak to drivers and have team members give them up to date info as the race is unfolding.

Speed seem to only have Peter Windsor, who does not do anything really in depth for those clown commentators who seem to be sitting in some studio in the US hovering over a tv set.. Geez, I could do a better job !!

just my $.02

Funny...this is exactly what their doing although I imagine they have a more advanced timing and news feed. F1 commentators from the US haven't been attending races since back in the ESPN days (bar the US & Canadian GP's).
It used to get Bernie all worked up. He even threatened to end ESPN's contract when they started doing it, but unfortunately...it appears to have become the norm.
