Qualifying methods have changed many times over the years. I remember when they just had a 1 single hour qualify session with each driver having a limited number of laps to put down their best time. Then in the early 2000's they tried a single flying lap qualifying method.
Personally I think the sprint race will be the most entertaining, although we'll most likely end up with the same results

Adding a sprint race to the weekend is fine. Using the sprint race to determine quali is stupid.
