I'm curious to see his reaction.
As ill-mannered as hitting that #3 marker seemed, he was surprisingly calm, albeit distraught over the result. Congratulated the other guys, acknowledged the cheers from the crowds and did not berate his team. He seems to have a better handle over his emotions lately.

LH is not only a better driver but mentally stronger than Nico and the others.

He showed that last season and it continues.

Without horrendous bad luck he will be champion again

I like the intensity that Max showed. I do think he move was a little over-anxious (over-optimistic, maybe?).. not sure what word I'm looking for.. Basically, wrong place wrong time.

I love that he was driving to that intensity though. It's something I feel that the sport has been missing. Everyone seems to drive so cautiously these days.

What is your guys' opinion on the lack of penalty for Ricciardo? I've watched the video over and over, and compared to the Alonso/Hulk incident. I'm still in agreement with the stewards on both accounts, but so many other people seem to disagree.

The race stewards are pretty inconsistent over the course of a season and it's pretty frustrating. At the end of the day, stewards have a lot more information than viewers do and a lot more experience in racing than I do so I have to defer to their judgement. While their calls can be pretty suspect, I have no complaints from this weekend. Nobody lost out so it's not worth getting in a knot over. I think the the alonso/hulkenburg collision was a racing incident. They were side by side and alonso stayed on the racing line in spite of his skid. The ricciardo/kimi collision on the other hand is a case of no harm no foul but a penalty on ricciardo would be totally justified. He was way behind and kimi had full right to take the racing line. Still, it's good that there wasn't a penalty because that's exactly the kind of racing that makes F1 exciting. Non-contact is preferred but, again, no harm no foul.

I wish I could see the data myself but the verstappen crash vindicates a notion I maintain to never root for a driver in their rookie year. They are the vehicular pinball of the race track. It's unfortunate that the state of this season is such that rookie drivers are the only interesting story for journalists to pursue.

IMO they were hasty in imposing a penalty on Alonso. With hindsight and possibly the realization that in Monaco some skirmishes are par for the course, they appear to have let the others go.

Verstappen I hope will learn from this race. He definitely had the measure of the Lotus. He should have just bided his time all the while pressuring Grosjean. Not too long ago Grosjean was labeled a first-lap nutcase and he has honed his racecraft since. MV is still only 17, and he will hone his skills over time and hopefully live up to the potential he seems to be displaying.
